From: E.J. Barret, PADI DM

Monday, January 15, 2001 7:24 PM

I and others from the Suncoast Seals scuba club headed out for a
day of diving.  The weather was supposed to be perfect and we were not
to be dissuaded by the recent reports of bad viz and cold water. Most of
those reports seem to be from people trying to dive shallow ledges in
45-60'.  We passed those shallow spots and headed for a wreck in 110' of
water. Arriving on site, we all were impressed by the ink colored
water.  A couple of our crew are world-class freedivers and slipped in
the water without tanks.  First freedive produced an amberjack in the
40# range.  The rest of the crew joined the fray and several large AJs
came aboard.  Tiring of the fun, four divers descended with tanks while
one stayed above.  Some 30 minutes later the team returned with
stringers full of fat gag groupers of up to 25# and more AJs. Visibility
was estimated to be 70' and the seas were gentle 2' swells with a water
temp of 62.  A dive later in the day in 80' of water, on a barge,
produced a great many flounder and more gags. All in all it was another
great day of diving and shooting on the Suncoast.
